Late Summer Sun
The kids have gone back to school, the crowds have all gone home, now is the time to grab the last of the summer sun. Late summer means the best of all worlds, warm sunny days to make the most of our 40 miles of coastline, walking or cycling in the New Forest, kayaking or paddle boarding, or just relaxing with a drink by the River.
It’s hard to beat the beautiful colours of the trees, the purple heather and the fantastic red sunsets that we get at this time of year. One of the best ways to explore the autumn colours is a walk in the New Forest. There are plenty of walks to choose from but one of the best at this time of year is at Bolderwood, through the Beech and Oak trees, it also hosts a deer sanctuary with a public deer observation platform.
As the acorns begin to drop from the Oak trees pigs are released on to the forest to gobble them all up, an ancient commoning right known as ‘pannage’, this protects the livestock that roams around the forest, from eating the acorns which can cause illness.
